Under the sponsorship of Al-Safwa University College, the Law Department organized a training workshop with the title: “Drugs: a Weapon in the Hands of Your Enemy, Don’t Let Them Control You.”

The presenters included:

  • Ms. Sajja Ayman Al-Safi – Chairperson of the Law Department, with fourth-year students (Hussein Hassan Najm and Diaa Al-Din Fadel Abdul).
  • Sayed Ali Al-Talqani, a religious and human lecturer.
  • Colonel Muthanna Nadhim, Director of Drug Control.
  • Dr. Amer Al-Haidari, University of Karbala.

The workshop commenced with verses from the Quran and the recitation of Surah Al-Fatiha for the souls of Iraq’s martyrs. A welcoming speech was delivered by the College Dean, Professor Dr. Ali Zalan Naama, the Assistant Dean for Administrative Affairs.

The workshop covered four main axes, starting with the psychological aspect discussed by Dr. Amer, addressing the dangers of drugs and their impact on an individual’s mental, psychological, and physical health, leading to a change in thinking and behavior. The harm caused by drugs extends beyond the individual to affect families and society as a whole, posing a threat to moral corruption, violence, and crime.

The legal and criminal axis, elucidated by Colonel Muthanna and lecturer Sajja, focused on drug control efforts and the imposition of legal penalties, including the death penalty for drug trafficking.

The workshop concluded with a discussion on the mechanisms undertaken by both the people and the state to combat this issue. The religious and social axis, presented by Sayed Ali Al-Talqani, highlighted the religious prohibition of drugs, emphasizing the societal and legal aspects of confronting this phenomenon and fortifying the community against it.
